BDS Programme consists of four years of study with one year of compulsory rotating internship.
The Programme has three major components: the first component deals with the basic medical sciences common to medical degree programmes. This includes Anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, Pathology and Pharmacology besides Dental Materials Science and community dentistry.
There will be Pre- Clinical Laboratory techniques during the first 2 years. This component will provide basic foundation for understanding the principl, concepts and applications of underlying patho physiological mechanism of illness and the pre clinical techniques of preventing and treating the disease.
The second component deals with the oral biology. It will be transition of students from Preclinical to the Clinical. They will also learn General Medicine, General surgery, Anesthesia, forensic dentistry and community dentistry which includes field visit too.
The third component is the clinical dentistry itself which deals with dental health problems from the patient side. They will be trained how to take history from patient’s families , perform Clinical exam, order appropriate investigations and provide necessary treatment for common dental health problems.
